While I'm on my phone, talking to someone about a possible new shoot and collaboration, Stella comes to say Hi. 'Hi!' she says, 'Hi Stella' I replay and give her some pencils to make a drawing. After that, I put her in her chair. While I'm doing that the conversation on the phone continues and all I think is: 'F*ck, what did she just say?!' I was concentrating on putting Stella in her highchair. I continue the conversation and can actually talk for a couple of seconds, before Stella screams: 'NO, MOM!'. Oh, I need to sit next to her. Ok. 'DRAW! CAT!' Stella now continues. I give her the look: the look when she knows to act normal and keep her loud voice. Now she starts crying. 'Ok, I'm so sorry, I have to call you back' I tell the lady on the phone...
'You are so lucky to be working from home!', I've heard others say to me before. I always start laughing... Yes, of course I'm lucky to have spend so many time with Stella and watch her grow up. We've build so many memories together these two years and those are things I'm very grateful for!
We danced in the rain, multiple times, and together we watch movies in bed, build tents, discover our city and laugh together.
So, well ok. Working from home does have one heavy benefit: spending time with Stella. But that doesn't change the fact that sometimes it can be hard: the people I work for doesn't care if Stella is sick or not heaving her day, they have deadlines. And they are right! Business is business! And sometimes that fact is hard and it makes me wonder how I'm going to manage everything, and this week I had one of those moments.
Stella was sick this week, she needed me but I also needed to finish a project. I couldn't give my full attention to Stella, work or the house. And as a result? A messy house, a sick baby and work unfinished. Welcome to the wonderful life from a work-at-home mom.
Well, let's just say that you can't do it all.. Can you? And isn't that the motto for every mom, weather she is a stay at home, work at home or one with an office job?
But luckily it's almost time for a new, fresh week. And maybe by then I will look more like these super realistic images you get when you google 'work at home mom'. Because, yes: that's totally how get my things done: with Stella quietly on my back and lying on the floor!
